6 Days, 240km, over 7000m of climbing, 4600m descent, Yak Attack 2009

For 2009, Yak Attack is going MTB only.

With the development of 4wd jeep tracks into the area, it is no longer possible for runners to compete with the mountain bikers over the entire course, so it has been decided to turn Yak Attack into Nepal's premier MTB only event.

The good news for the mtb'ers is that the course will now have a larger percentage of rideable sections, with it being approx 65% rideable upto the Thorong La pass and 100% rideable once over the pass.

The knock on effect of this is that we can now increase the distances covered each day bringing the total number of days racing down to 6, with an average daily distance of 45km.

As if that wasnt enough, race organisers, Extreme World Challenges , have also included a whole lot of new features for 2009.
  • Stage prizes- so whether you are a climber of descender, endurance or sprinter, everyone has a chance of winning
  • Downhill event- On the rest day in Manang. A great way of acclimatising for the ensuing altitude and a fun days riding.
  • Final day Enduro- The last days stage will be close to 100km with an altitude loss of over 2000m
  • Pre race aclimatisation ride - Arrive in Kathmandu a few days early and join us on a 2 day ride to the rim of the Kathmandu valley which at over 2000m high will aid acclimatisation for the race.
  • TorqFitness training plan- Having competed in last years race, fitness guru Matt Hart has all the experience to tailor a specific high altitude training plan for all budding Yak Attackers.
  • Not confirmed as yet, but we are hoping to have online live satellite tracking of all competitors during the race (suplied by I4 Technologies ),so your sponsors, loved ones or fans! can follow your progress as you traverse the Annapurnas.

Interested??? Then read on and decide whether you are tough enough to take on the YAK ATTACK 2009.
